OverviewThe Student Success Advisor will report to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and is responsible for delivering an integrated set of academic and co-curricular support services through a holistic and culturally relevant approach, focused on helping Native students succeed in college. Working in collaboration with the Student Success Advisory Team, the incumbent will provide student support and services in the following areas:- Leader for programs at multiple points throughout the year
- Learning Lab tutoring services and educational programming
- Weekly support group (Talking Circle), weekly Food and Community Nights, and Blue Corn Mornings during mid-term and final exams
- Early Alert Program and resource referrals
- Pantry Program
- Contribute to all other college transition-related and retention-related efforts.Responsibilities- Contribute in highly collaborative manner to all Student Success related programs development, implementation and assessment.
- Assist in planning and organizing Orientation Programs prior to the start of each semester for all new incoming students, and coordinate planning with various campus departments, to have in place all the logistical resources and related personnel; assist with outreach related to Orientation Programs through social media, email/phone calls, and mailouts.
- Coordinate weekly support group (Talking Circle) to support students in an affirming and safe environment.
- Coordinate weekly Food and Community Nights and Blue Corn Mornings during mid-terms and finals weeks.
- Develop, organize, implement and lead the Student Success Center’s Peer Mentorship Program aimed at increasing student participation and retention, including reporting on the program’s progress each semester and data metrics on retention.
- Develop a working knowledge of local resources accessible to IAIA’s students and make appropriate referrals.
- Monitor the Early Alert Program and Student Absences in the efforts to assist students in their success and works in collaboration with other departments.
- Serve on key committees to facilitate effective liaison between Student Affairs and all segments of the college community.
- Monitors and manages Pantry, student storehouse, cleaning, organizing and collecting donations of items for students.
- Select, train and supervise Work Study student(s).
- Effective public advancement of the Student Success Center’s role to external colleagues and constituencies.
- Effectively perform basic administrative functions, create effective meeting agendas, facilitate meetings, and document activities and services.
- Perform other duties as assigned/required, including back-up for Student Affairs related functions as needed.QualificationsREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCERequires a bachelor’s degree a related field, with at least a year or more of working in a higher education setting providing student support-related services and/or resources.REQUIRED ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS- Ability to lead, motivate and manage the student support services and resources.
- Ability to develop a systematic approach for meeting the daily needs of students.
- Ability to organize and maintain systematic files for programs and support services provided.
- Ability to prioritize assignments to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently without close supervision.
- Ability to be a self-starter; highly self-motivated to improve programs and processes, such as the annual Student Success Summit or other SSC events.
- Ability to respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Ability to function effectively and efficiently as part of a team.
- Demonstrated experience working in a deadline-driven environment.
- Must have exceptional and courteous interpersonal skills, which fosters a collaborative, safe and engaging learning environment.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must have proficient knowledge Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and the internet.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures and general office equipment.
- The employee must adhere to appropriate professional standards of conduct and ethics, including confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.
- Ability to comply with management directives and be adaptive to a changing work environment.
- Ability to cooperate with a wide range of audience, which includes demonstration of mutual-respect at all times with others.
- Participate in meetings as required.Working Conditions- Position requires extensive interpersonal interactions with a wide range of individuals in a leadership and team organizing role.
- Occasional out-of-town travel for meetings or conferences.
- May sit at a desk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to reach for, grasp and extend hand or arm in any direction as part of completing essential clerical tasks.
- Ability to effectively utilize a keyboard/computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to receive, interpret and respond to information communicated in various forms (verbal, written, etc.).
